Adalimumab is a medication primarily used to alleviate pain and swelling associated with certain types of arthritis, including rheumatoid, psoriatic, juvenile idiopathic, and ankylosing spondylitis. It is also effective in treating specific skin conditions like plaque psoriasis and hidradenitis suppurativa. The drug functions by inhibiting a protein in the immune system known as tumor necrosis factor (TNF), which contributes to joint inflammation and damage in arthritis and the formation of red, scaly patches in psoriasis. As a TNF blocker, Adalimumab helps minimize joint inflammation, prevent further joint damage, and maintain joint functionality. Additionally, this medication is used to manage certain bowel diseases, such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, as well as an eye condition known as uveitis. Various formulations of Adalimumab include adalimumab-aacf, adalimumab-aaty, adalimumab-adaz, adalimumab-adbm, adalimumab-afzb, adalimumab-aqvh, adalimumab-atto, adalimumab-bwwd, adalimumab-fkjp, and adalimumab-ryvk.
